2022 EHS News and Updates

BCA routinely monitors updates from EPA and states we work in. See below for the topics we are currently monitoring and find most relevant for our client base at this time.

PFAS

IDEM has commenced their study to test public drinking water systems for PFAS. At this time No PFAS sample results have been above EPA Health Advisory levels for Finished/Treated Drinking Water according to IDEM’s PFAS website. It is still uknown what direction IDEM will take.
States like Michigan are taking a stronger approach to PFAS and those industrial facilities that have a well and are considered public drinking water systems are required to test for PFAS routinely. That is not yet a requirement in Indiana for industrial facilities.

New Listed Hazardous Air Pollutant

In January 2022 EPA finalized the rule adding 1-bromopropane (1-BP) to the Hazardous Air Pollutant List. This chemical is commonly used as an aerosol solvent, a degreaser for metals, plastics, optics and electronics and for dry cleaning. If you use this substance, then your air permit may need to be evaluated and modified. See EPA’s website for more information.
